Rooted in African and African American heritage, Black Queen Things was inspired by our grandmother — a true original whose boutique, Kayah Co., brought African fashion to life in 1950s Freetown. She was a woman of vision, elegance, and quiet authority. Her spirit lives on in everything we create.

Our original Black Queen playing card design traces back to childhood — inspired by an African deck of cards we grew up with. Those cards weren’t just games; they were symbols of power, storytelling, and identity. That early imagery became the foundation for what Black Queen Things represents today: sovereignty, self-definition, and style rooted in heritage.

Everything we make honors the everyday Black women who don’t just move through the world — they shape it. Women who rewrite the rules that were never designed with them in mind. Because Black women don’t just break ceilings — they redesign the entire blueprint.
