Lol.  I posted this Toni Morrison quote from Song of Solomon on Instagram and got this hilarious clap back.  Good point. Let's keep the kids.

On a more serious note, the life we live is dictated by the things that affect us. From the moment of our first breath to that of our last we are faced with challenges that more often than not determine how we see life and how we choose to live it. A sexual abuse survivor, struggling with the experience, can suffer a crushing weight if they blame themselves for what happened. They may feel some relief in heart and spirit, the day the realize that in no way, shape or form, are they responsible for someone else's inability to control themselves.  Nothing they ever did warranted that abuse. Similarly, a person that grew up in an abusive home can either become a loving parent or repeat the cycle.

The long and short of it is that we all have something that weighs us down. The experiences we go through can either be anchors in a good way or bad. However, the only constant in all these is that we are in control.  Concentrating on past pain serves to put us down and instill doubt in our minds. If we want to fly, we must let go of things that weigh us down.

This quote speaks to those of us that are constantly affected by our past. While it is true that our past has a bearing on our present and future, we are the ones that determine to what extent the effect shall be. If we want to succeed, we must let go of the things that limit us from realizing our full potential. The same thing applies to the people in our lives that do not have our best interests at heart.
